...... and we are still top of the fair play league as well (18.04.10)

Sunday 14th March 2010

Wootton Blue Cross – 4

V

Winslow United Tigers – 0

A disappointing afternoon for  the Tigers means that the next few weeks will be spent anxiously watching the results come in on a Sunday afternoon to see if we finish top or fourth!

A win would have guaranteed runners up and promotion but the long journey and pressure seems to have been too much.  On a pitch that should have suited the Tigers they started very sleepily.  Ant was feeling unwell, Ross was unavailable and Arron declared himself unfit on Sunday morning.  The re-arranged back four took a little while to settle and Wootton took their chances.  The first came from a penalty, the second just three minutes later was a soft goal to concede and within 25 minutes it was 3-0.  The Tigers looked shell shocked but slowly woke up and started to play.  A sucker punch on 37 minutes closed the half out at 4-0 to the home side.

Wootton defended well and having taken their chances early in the game didn’t pose too much of a threat to the Tigers in the second half.  Winslow dominated the second period and stood up determinedly to Josh, Patch and Jack Reynolds trying to force their way through to goal.

4-0 seems harsh having watched the game and being unable to take a completely impartial view I feel that we just didn’t get the run of the green today.  Things didn’t quite fall right and luck didn’t go our way.  Having said that you make your own luck, we probably had enough clear chances to pull Wootton back in but we couldn’t finish them off.  Patch, Josh, Paul and Jack R all saw efforts go narrowly wide and Ants appearance in the midfield spurred the lads on but wasn’t quite enough.

Dench pulled off a couple of good saves in the second half to prove that we still had to defend, and at the end of the day we have to concede the points to Wootton.  Paul and Connor were outstanding today and proved why they should be considered the clubs best two players this season.  Paul deserved the man of the match trophy again but picking between the pair of them was not easy.

Thats it then.... Under 16 season finished and the end of my managerial career.  It was a shame we couldn’t go out with a bang but I am proud of the way the guys have played this season.  The football has been good and the spirit commendable.  Thank you to all of them for their hard work and thank you to all of the players over the last 10 years that have made this such a fantastic experience.

I look forward to seeing you all at the end of season barbecue, keep an eye on this page as I will continue to update it until all fixtures are complete.

Cheers, Gazza.

Winslow United Fantasy League

Winslow Championship Fantasy League - 9.4.10

I haven’t had a chance to look at the fantasy league for some time but there are a few surprises.  Despite my absence I am still sitting a credible 8th despite getting last weeks third worst score… only Josh and Karl scored less than me!

Ross is still strong at the top with Will hot on his heels.  Jake has amazingly climbed in to 3rd and may still have enough time to challenge for the top spot.

Down at the bottom its difficult to know who still playing.  I haven’t made any changes for about 3 months but still seem to be 500 points better off than the bottom 3.  Liam…. Any comments? If you would like to send your comments on your teams performance to me via email or Facebook I will publish them on this site!

Its getting exciting now… only a few weeks to go.  All 4 over 17’s are in the top ten, as for the family game its Roberts leading from Honor, and then Ant and Josh are rather letting down teams Fruncillo and Hooper.

Wednesday 9th June 2010

and finally.........

Sunday evening, 6.30pm, our moment in the sun.  We may be there as runners up but I bet we are the only team that deserved to take points from Fenny Stratford.  They caught us out at our place and we returned the favour at thiers.... we had a great season and should welcome the chance to bask in a little glory.

Please be at StadiumMK in plenty of time, we will be sitting in row A6 when you get there.

See you all on Sunday
