Preston Gawcott Tigers U11’s v Woburn Lions Hurricanes Saturday 8th May
It was more of a battle with the elements, than on the playing field, this week for Preston Gawcott Tigers U11’s at home against Woburn Lions Hurricanes. This was Tigers last league game of the season and though completely dominated by the extremely cold and windy conditions both teams played exceedingly well.
Woburn scored the only goal of the match in the early minutes leaving a game of re-booted determination and great game play. Dale, Brown and sub Kayll regrouped to provide a solid defensive barrier supporting the indispensable Sam Walker, in goal, from then on, impenetrable as usual in deflecting and preventing any further accumulation to the score line with some spectacular saves.
Mid fielders, Carter and Deangelis, performed well, feeding the ball forward on a number of occasions, unfortunately without gain.
Tigers have completed another rewarding season of constant collective improvement in their teamwork, play and sportsmanship. They were all awarded Man of the Match.
1st May 2010
Preston Gawcott U11’s away to United MK,
Captained this week by Josh Miller, did a sterling job, spurring the team into action after a slow, tentative first few minutes.
Kayll, Deangelis and Fox showed great interplay forcing the opposition away from the goal, thwarting numerous attacks. The score settled at 2 – 0 at half time.
Throughout the game Tigers worked through United’s ranks tirelessly finishing with some frustratingly unsuccessful attempts at the goal, Clarke produced a number of good, sharp crosses that unfortunately did not come to fruition until Miller from the 25 yard line after a back and forth pass-fest sent the ball in a perfect arc for a successful 10th attempt at the net! The final score 4 – 1 did by no means represent the hard work and tenacity shown by Tigers with countless challenges and tight teamwork supported by consistent brave defence from Kirbyshaw-Sims, Kayll and goalie Sam Walker.
Man of the Match was awarded to Billy Hayden for tremendous improvement in his game play
Preston Gawcott Tigers U11’s away to Olney Town Colts Galaxy
Saturday 17th April
Preston Gawcott Tigers U11’s had their work cut out for them this Saturday away at Olney Town Colts Galaxy. Severely depleted with only 8 v 9 men with NO Subsitutes to relieve them in the heat of the sun, they all rose admirably and staunchly to the challenge.
They entered the fray positively and created numerous chances amongst themselves in pursuit of the first goal, but it was Olney who eventually succeeded after twenty five demanding minutes of competitive play. Tigers quickly regrouped, and fuelled by the challenge, William Dale took the ball on a long composed run down the wing to score and equalise the tally just before the half time whistle.
Dale soon took the opportunity for another speedy leg stretch down the side line, with Olney hot on his heels, to score his second impressive goal for Tigers at the opening of the second half, making up for an unlucky penalty try earlier on. Olney then unexpectedly equalized with a shocker from the halfway line.
Josh Miller took Tigers second nail biting penalty and cannoned the ball perfectly into the net to take Tigers one ahead but in the closing seconds of the game Olney caught up again leaving the finishing score at 3-3.
Credit has got to be paid to the whole Tigers team for steadfast, persistent teamwork and endurance, but especially to goalie Sam Walker who made, amongst many, three outstanding and instinctive saves. Man of the Match was awarded to the whole team.
