Season 2010/11 Match reports by Sue Kayll

Preston Gawcott Tigers U11’s v Woburn Lions Hurricanes Saturday 8th May

It was more of a battle with the elements, than on the playing field, this week for Preston Gawcott Tigers U11’s at home against Woburn Lions Hurricanes.  This was Tigers last league game of the season and though completely dominated by the extremely cold and windy conditions both teams played exceedingly well.

Woburn scored the only goal of the match in the early minutes leaving a game of re-booted determination and great game play.  Dale, Brown and sub Kayll regrouped to provide a solid defensive barrier supporting the indispensable Sam Walker, in goal, from then on, impenetrable as usual in deflecting and preventing any further accumulation to the score line with some spectacular saves.

Mid fielders, Carter and Deangelis,  performed well, feeding the ball forward on a number of occasions, unfortunately without gain.

Tigers have completed another rewarding season of constant collective improvement in their teamwork, play and sportsmanship.  They were all awarded Man of the Match.

1st May 2010

Preston Gawcott U11’s away to United MK,

Captained this week by Josh Miller, did a sterling job, spurring the team into action after a slow, tentative first few minutes.

Kayll, Deangelis and Fox showed great interplay forcing the opposition away from the goal, thwarting numerous attacks.  The score settled at 2 – 0 at half time.

Throughout the game Tigers worked through United’s ranks tirelessly finishing with some frustratingly unsuccessful attempts at the goal, Clarke produced a number of good, sharp crosses that unfortunately did not come to fruition until Miller from the 25 yard line after a back and forth pass-fest sent the ball in a perfect arc for a successful 10th attempt at the net!   The final score 4 – 1 did by no means represent the hard work and tenacity shown by Tigers with countless challenges and tight teamwork supported by consistent brave defence from Kirbyshaw-Sims, Kayll and goalie Sam Walker.

Man of the Match was awarded to Billy Hayden for tremendous improvement in his game play

Preston Gawcott Tigers U11’s away to Olney Town Colts Galaxy

Saturday 17th April

Preston Gawcott Tigers U11’s had their work cut out for them this Saturday away at Olney Town Colts Galaxy.  Severely depleted with only 8 v 9 men with NO Subsitutes to relieve them in the heat of the sun, they all rose admirably and staunchly to the challenge.

They entered the fray positively and created numerous chances amongst themselves in pursuit of the first goal, but it was Olney who eventually succeeded after twenty five demanding minutes of competitive play.  Tigers quickly regrouped, and fuelled by the challenge, William Dale took the ball on a long composed run down the wing to score and equalise the tally just before the half time whistle.

Dale soon took the opportunity for another speedy leg stretch down the side line, with Olney hot on his heels, to score his second impressive goal for Tigers at the opening of the second half, making up for an unlucky penalty try earlier on.  Olney then unexpectedly equalized with a shocker from the halfway line.

Josh Miller took Tigers second nail biting penalty and cannoned the ball perfectly into the net to take Tigers one ahead but in the closing seconds of the game Olney caught up again leaving the finishing score at 3-3.

Credit has got to be paid to the whole Tigers team for steadfast, persistent teamwork and endurance, but especially to goalie Sam Walker who made, amongst many, three outstanding and instinctive saves. Man of the Match was awarded to the whole team.

Saturday 10th April

Preston Gawcott Tigers U11’s played away to Heelands Rangers

Preston Gawcott Tigers U11’s played away to Heelands Rangers this Saturday and energised by the sunshine they set off at a storming pace.  The first half was full of determined play, superb communication and promising passes.  An impressive cross from William Dale was intercepted and finished off by Marcus Deangelis opening the tally for Tigers.

Captained by the ever enthusiastic Harry Guy, Tigers remained focused from the whistle.  William Brown proved resolute in defence and combined with resilient midfielder Joseph Kayll, they continually impeded the advances of the Heelands front men.  Sure shot, Ashley Carter made another tremendous strike for Tigers for the third week in a row.  Focused, William Dale scored confidently too for Tigers, just before half time, in the midst of a goal mouth flurry.

The second half saw Heelands regroup and the match stepped up a notch, however, Christian Clarke fresh from the substitute bench was unwavering and battled right through to the penalty area to score Tigers fourth and winning goal.

Heelands were not with out their own gains however and did slip two goals through to the Tigers net after a number of thwarted attacks, beautifully saved by goalie Sam Walker.  But it wasn’t enough to take the match and Tigers won 2 – 4.

Men of the Match went to both Sam Walker and Ashley Carter for constant improvement and execution of training instructions throughout the match.

Saturday 27th March 2010

Preston Gawcott Tigers U11’s played Olney Town Colts Galaxy at home this Saturday in a first-rate, fast paced game from the start.   Superb communication and tight team work paid off for Tigers throughout the entire match.

Ollie Fox opened play for Tigers with his precise and speedy footwork, delivering the ball to striker Christian Clarke who finished it off with a lovely header to open the goal tally.  Colts fought back though and after a determined battle Tigers eventually conceded a goal, this, however, only proved to strengthen their resolve and just before half time Clarke responded artfully with a straight, clean shot into the Colts net.

The second half saw more of the same clarity in play from the Tigers, and when ‘super sub’ Ashley Carter entered the arena he produced his usual, a terrific goal, taking the score to 3 -1.  An impressive win for Tigers with Harry Guy awarded Man of the Match.

Preston Gawcott Tigers U11’s V Woburn Lions Tornados 20th March 2010

Preston Gawcott Tigers U11’s played host to, top of the league, Woburn Lions Tornados this Saturday and it proved to be an exhilarating, fast paced fixture.

The action launched straight off the whistle, Ollie Fox and Christian Clarke worked their separate ways to two gritty attempts at the goal.  Marcus Deangelis succeeded in his mission scoring Tigers first goal, at just five minutes.  With energy and confidence Joseph Kayll sent a long pass to Josh Miller who turned the ball and scored skilfully.

Following a goal mouth scuffle of dancing feet, Ollie Fox freed the ball and tapped it in to bring the score up to 3 – 0. However, just before half time Tigers conceded a goal to Tornados.  This proved to be the turning point of the match as Tornados started to fight back despite the determination of Tigers’ Jordan Gravestock, in defence, with some unwavering interceptions.  Ollie Fox managed a direct score from a William Dale cross.

In the last minutes Woburn equalised with a spectacular shot, closing the score at 4-4.  Hard working goalie Sam Walker won Man of the Match for consistent application and team focus.

Preston Gawcott Tigers  v MK Wanderers

13 March 2010

A quality display of spirited football offered itself this Saturday for Preston Gawcott Tigers U11’s at home against MK Wanderers.  Even though the final score tallied at 1 – 4 it was end to end inspirational play between the two well suited teams of youngsters.

Feisty Harry Guy, frequently led the action for Tigers with his usual determination and speedy footwork.  A successful defensive net, in the shape of  Joseph Kayll, Jordan Gravestock and Max Kirbyshaw Sims, worked  effectively for Tigers throughout the first half in a hard fought battle preventing further damage.

Persistence and endeavour eventually paid off for Tigers’ when Ollie Fox scored in the second half after numerous challenges to the Wanderers defences.  The Tigers continually improve their game flair, using the entire pitch to their advantage, the team work and effort was outstanding, excellent communication won Jordan Gravestock Man of the Match.

Preston Gawcott Tigers   v Water Eaton Blues

27th February 2010

Very wet, cold and windy conditions met Preston Gawcott Tigers U11’s away at Water Eaton Blues on Saturday and created significant challenges for both teams.  The 6–1 final score, however, did not reflect either possession or determination and effort from the whole of the Tigers’ side.  Despite Water Eaton opening the scoring, the main action occurred around their end 80% of the game. However, they did manage to find their way through Tigers defences a number of times in the first half to score.  Tigers bit back resolutely in the second half with a triumphant, well taken goal from a focused Ashley Carter, spurring them on.  Up front, Tigers’ Ollie Fox, Harry Guy, Jordan Gravestock and Josh Miller played some stylish and confident crosses and the teams solid defence covered the whole pitch throughout the match, William Brown especially, with some exuberance which was noted with him being awarded Man of the Match.

Preston Gawcott Tigers  v United MK

12th December 2009

Playing at home against top of the table United MK both teams played a spectacular game, for the Tigers it was by far their most impressive performance to date.

Unbeaten, and disciplined, United MK opened the tally with an early goal, however, the Tigers’ teamwork, passing and determined play kept them from adding to their score.

Josh Miller scored the Tigers’ first goal from a lovely running cross by Christian Clarke.

Then with support and ball skills from Joseph Kayll and Jordan Gravestock,  a focused Harry Guy sped through the ranks passing accurately to Ollie Fox who ploughed the ball into the net a second time for Tigers,

The third ball came across the pitch in a continuos line from a tremendous kick from Sam Walker, Christian Clarke recieved it, turned and passed to Ollie Fox who tapped it straight into the goal.

Tigers fourth goal presented itself when Josh Miller, helped by Ashley Carter and Billy Hayden, with a first class pass, gave the ball to Christian Clarke who finished it off.

The fifth, final and winning goal for Tigers came from Harry Guy supported by William’s Dale, Brown and Marcus Deangelis.

Man “Men” of the match went, deservedly, to the whole team.

Saturday 28th November

Preston Gawcott Tivers V Woburn Lions Hurricanes (League Away)

Without the benefit of subs, and after a later then publicised start, Tigers slipped into a well organised game full of quick fire passes, manoeuvres and communication, keeping the ball around the oppositions’ goal.  Woburn however managed to get the first goal in but skilful play from Tigers Christian Clarke bought Tigers an equalizer.  Woburn replied with a second goal, fighting against the spirited determination of the Tigers’ wingers Clarke and Josh Miller and faultless goalkeeping, despite injury, from Sam Walker supported by Jordan Gravestock in defence.  Joseph Kayll took a powerful free kick for Tigers after a Woburn hand ball and with a sweetly placed goal, his first of the season, evened the score line.  Woburn scored again and despite the energetic play and a number of goal attempts from Harry Guy and Billy Hayden, Tigers were unable to pull off an equaliser. Final score, 3 – 2 to Woburn.  Man of the Match went to Harry Guy for quick, thoughtful and decisive play.

31st October 2009

Preston Gawcott Tigers V Brickhill Wanderers

(Home League Cup R2)

Brickhill proved a formidable and skilled opponent and despite the sterling efforts and quite a number of successful saves from rookie goalie Joseph Kayll, Tigers were down 8 – 0 by the end of the first half.  They re-entered the fray after half time with renewed spirit and energy and with Captain Josh Miller calling the shots.  A number of near misses from Marcus Deangelis and Harry Guy lifted the mood substantially but finally, after a vastly improved performance in the second half, Tigers bowed out of the cup 10 – 0 down.

Man of the match went to both Joseph Kayll and Josh Miller for good team spirit and encouragement.

Preston Gawcott Tigers U11’s v Heeland Rangers Alphas

(Home league)

17 October 2009

Preston Gawcott Tigers U11’s were at home this weekend against Heelands Rangers Alphas and played superbly as a team displaying thought and tactics.  The Tigers’ win,  6 – 0,  was fully deserved, the game was well spaced and fast paced using the whole pitch to each of the players advantage.   Joshua Miller scored the first of his maiden hat trick in the first minute, Christian Clarke scored twice and Heelands produced an own goal in the closing stages.  Special thanks to Paul and John Dearlove who both showed extreme professionalism in the face of adversity.

Man of the match went to Billy Hayden.

Preston Gawcott Tigers U11’s v Woburn Lions

03 October 09

Preston Gawcott Tigers U11’s, away to Woburn Lions this week, had a fortunate first half in this equally skilled match, and were presented with two own goals.  Skilled action around each goal mouth, from both teams’ defensive and forward positions saw persistence eventually pay off for determined Joshua Miller who provided Tigers with a spectacular season opener.

Tigers’ goalie Sam Walker had a busy game throughout with a display of impressive and successful reflex saves, however, with the gale force wind behind them in the second half, Lions caught up and took over the game winning 5 -3.  Man of the match went to an innovative Harry Guy.

Preston Gawcott Tigers U11’s v Heelands Rangers Alphas (Cup)

26 Sep 09

Preston Gawcott Tigers U11’s stormed to a 5 – 0 victory in this Saturdays cup match at home against Heelands Rangers Alphas.  In spite of the positive result it was a well matched game with end to end energy, even Tigers’ goalie, Sam Walker, did not miss out on the action and made some spectacular saves.

Captained by Christian Clarke, Tigers first goal was delivered by quick thinking winger Ollie Fox who caught Alphas’ goalie off his line.  The second, from Harry Guy who threaded his way artfully through their persistent defences to score.  Christian Clarke brought home the third goal after a long breaking run down the pitch with Alphas hot on his heels.  Fourth came from James Button scoring his maiden goal for the Tigers, and finally Clarke again with a powerful angled shot.

Man of the match went to Ollie Fox.

Preston Gawcott U11’s v Water Eaton

Saturday 19th September 2009

Preston Gawcott Tigers U11’s  played at home this weekend against Water Eaton in a nail biting match.  An end to end game of football between two very well matched and equally skilled teams.

Gawcott got off to a great start with an opening goal from Marcus DeAngelis off an Olly Fox pass.  However, Water Eaton managed to equalise inspite of an impressive show of energetic defence from midfielder Joseph Kayll.

Water Eaton gave away an own goal at the end of the first half and they came back fighting from half time and soon equalised. They then took the score one ahead.  Tigers spurred on by the action had a superb strike from Harry Guy and then another from Christian Clarke but Water Eaton slotted one more goal past hard working goalie, Sam Walker, and time ran out for Gawcott to catch up and equalise.

Man of the Match went to Joshua Miller for determined and focused play.

Preston Gawcott Tigers U11’s away to MK Wanderers Kestrels

12 Sep. 09

A fast paced start to the new season for Preston Gawcott Tigers U11’s, away at MK Wanderers Kestrels.  An unstoppable Harry Guy scored first goal of the season for Tigers from a well aimed throw in by Will Dale in the sixth minute, which set the pace for the first half.

Kestrels equalised however, just after half time, and shortly took the score to 4-1.  Tigers’ Marcus DeAngelis and striker Christian Clarke both scored spectacular goals but it wasn’t enough to catch up, the final score, a well fought 6-3.
